What is a DTF Transfer?

DTF means Direct-to-Film. Your design gets printed onto a special film, then heat-pressed onto any fabric. No weeding. No screens. No colour limits. Works on cotton, poly, blends, dark or light.

How to apply

Press in 4 steps

All you need is a heat press. Full instructions come with every order.

Pre-press
Press garment 3 to 5 seconds to remove moisture and flatten fibres.

Place transfer film-side down on garment in desired position.

Apply firm even pressure for 10 to 15 seconds at 300 to 325°F.

Peel cold for best results. Re-press with parchment for softer finish.

Before You Ask

Do I need a heat press?
Yes, a heat press gives the best results. A household iron does not provide consistent enough heat or pressure. If you do not have one, try our press service. Bring your garments in and we press them for you at our Brighton location.
What file format do you need?
PNG with a transparent background is ideal. PDF and AI files also work. Minimum 300 DPI at print size. Not sure? Send it anyway. We review every file for free and let you know if anything needs fixing before we print.
What is the difference between a transfer and a gang sheet?
A transfer is a single design cut to size and ready to press. A gang sheet is one big sheet with multiple designs packed together, priced by the length of film you use rather than by design. If you need three or more transfers, a gang sheet almost always works out cheaper.
Do I get a proof before you print?
With the gang sheet builder you are looking at it. The preview on screen is exactly what we print, so there is nothing to wait for. We still check every file before it runs, and if something will not print well we call you first.
How long do DTF prints last?
DTF transfers last 100+ washes when applied correctly. Wash inside out in cold water and tumble dry low. They will not crack the way vinyl sometimes does over time.
What fabrics work with DTF?
Almost everything. 100% cotton, polyester, 50/50 blends, nylon, canvas, denim, even leather. Light and dark fabrics both work. This is DTF's biggest advantage over sublimation, which is polyester-only.
